Lemurs Going Back to the Wild
The lemurs in Betampona Reserve have become isolated by the agriculture surrounding the reserve's boundaries. To address the inbreeding and eventual extinction of this lemur population, the MFG successfully reintroduced lemurs born in U.S. zoos.
One of those released lemurs who mated with a wild lemur is the mother pictured here. (The juvenile shown in this photo was born in the U.S.)
